DAY 02
Yangon –Excursion Twante (B)

Meet the past on a river boat! Full day excursion on Twante Canal to the Ayeyarwady Delta. In Twante George Orwell spent his days in the Colonial Service and wrote his furious novel “Burmese Days”: Love scorned … but Twante (and Myanmar) are much too beautiful for bitterness. On to the potters and the weavers and the big golden pagoda by horse carts or rickshaw. In Twante time has come to a standstill.

Overnight in Bagan

DAY 03
Yangon - Bagan. (B)

Early morning flight to Bagan (80 minutes). Full day visit of the world´s largest temple and pagoda complex. This is not a temple rally, we show you the most beautiful and most important spots, at a leisurely pace true to our motto: less is more. Enjoy the eternal beauty and serenity of Bagan and catch its genius loci.

Overnight in Bagan

DAY 04
Bagan . (B)

Another full and rewarding day in and around Bagan. In the evening we attend the traditional marionette theatre (stringpuppets).

Overnight in Bagan

DAY 05
Excursion Mount Popa . (B)

Full day excursion to the steep cragged (flow-er rock) Mount Popa. This volcanic
plug, known as Popa (Sanskrit=flower), is sacred to the Burmese as “Olympus of their Buddhas and spirits (nats)”. Stairs lead you to the peak of this “stone flower” which is covered with temples and shrines. Then two hours through the plains with palmyra palms (a delicious palm wine is made here – which, of course, might be tasted) back to Bagan.

Overnight in Bagan

DAY 06
Bagan - Pakokku - Pakangyi - Monywa. (B)

Two mighty rivers determine this day: At Pakokku you cross the Ayeyarwady and at Pakangyi you meet the Chidwin whose course you follow till you reach Monywa - a full day trip away from tourist cross roads, pristine pastoral Burma.

Overnight in Monywa

DAY 07
Monywa - Powindaung - Sagaing - Mandalay . (B)

You cross the Chidwin by boat and are taken to the caves of Powindaung by pickups. The Powindaung Caves – grand moments of sacred art in cave temples, sidereal hour of Buddhism. DAY 08
Mandalay . (B)

Discover Mandalay in leisure, a full day´s visit of Burma´s last royal city where the last Burmese dynasty had to surrender at the end of the 19th century when the British expanded their Colonial Empire. Mandalay´s variety of sights is impressive – the country´s biggest and most beautiful Golden Buddha, the largest Marble Buddha … and you can go treasure hunting in the city´s manifold quaint boutiques. But first we visit the near-by royal city of Amarapura with its many temples and the world´s longest teakwood bridge. Experience a wonderful sunset cruising from a small boat near the bridge.

Overnight at Mandalay

DAY 09
Mingun - Heho - Lake Inle . (B)
We travel the Ayeyarwady for 1 hour upstream to Mingun where a mighty king once tried to build the world´s biggest pagoda – and failed. Yet even the dimension of his failure is still impressive. In the afternoon half-hour flight to Heho on the Shan plateau towards the Thai border where the Shan people have their settlements – another hour and we reach Lake Inle.

Overnight in Lake Inle

DAY 10
Lake Inle ( B )
This is an entire day in the boat visiting floating gardens and floating villages,
floating markets and floating pagodas – the floating world of the Intha, the famous legrowing fishermen. In the afternoon we take small boats to the fantastic scenery of the Shan pagodas at In Dein.

Overnight in Lake Inle
