01 |
Arrival Chiang Rai |

Upon arrival at Chiang Rai airport, you will be picked up by a local tour guide and transferred to your hotel in Chiang Rai. After check-in you have the rest of the day for your own leisure time.

DAY
02 |
Chiang Rai - Huay Xai - Pakbeng (B, L) |

After a very early breakfast, you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to the Thai/Laos border. Once the immigration procedures are done (on both Thailand and Laos borders), you will be transferred to the Slow boat pier, which takes about 15mins.The cruise starts at 9:00am down the river to Pakbeng. En route, one stop is made to observe rural life along the Mekong and observe minorities. A buffet lunch is served on board. We arrive in Pakbeng before sunset and check in at the Luang Say Lodge. Dinner on the terrace, overlooking the Mekong River (dinner not included).

DAY
03 |
Pakbeng - Pak Ou - Luang Prabang (B, L) |

You will enjoy a full breakfast at the Lodge. (Optional: walk to Pakbeng market, where people from the surrounding village of minorities sell their goods). At 8.30am board the boat for the second leg of the cruise. A short stop is made to visit a hilltribe village where you can watch the traditional process of Lao whiskey production before having a buffet lunch on board. Continue to Pak Ou village at the mouth of the Nam Ou River, where you visit the Tam Thing Caves of a Thousand Buddhas. Arrive at Luang Prabang before sunset. Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel in Luang Prabang.

DAY 04 |
Luang Prabang - Full day city tour (B) |

After breakfast we visit The National Museum (closed on Tuesday) at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of the arte facts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign. We then continue to enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. During our time here, we visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham, Wat Mai, we then climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic view of the city at sunset and the Mekong River. From there, we explore the Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textile made by local and hilltribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.

Please Note
- For Luang Say Cruise Downstream, a luggage tag will be given at Chiang Khong (Thailand border).
- Please bring a jersey or a jacket as it can be cool at Luang Say Lodge and on the boat during October to February.
- It is possible to leave your suitcase and luggage on the boat and take only a small daypack with changing clothes. This is an advisory as the steps to Luang Say Lodge are quite steep.
- For safety reasons and according to weather conditions, the program may be changed without prior notice.
